>>7908>why are mplayer and mpv better then vlc?
well, there are rendering options such as vdpau and vaapi but that's a pretty muddy area to draw comparison. There isn't really any difference for image or sound quality unless you are streaming, which is where vlc got its' bad reputation, mostly in the bad old days as a mozilla plugin.>why is MPD better then, lets say, VLC, when it comes to music?
this is purely an interface thing, nothing to do with sound quality. I personally use deadbeef for music and the interface, keymappings, ability to display track name on desktop and etc. make it more comfy as a music player. Options are also simpler and its' easier to configure than the options in vlc.>If anyone can recommend any software for viewing images then that would be nice.
I use the standard one that comes with mate "eye of mate" but to be fair, they are all pretty lame. There are no "advanced" image viewers.>>7910>None of them can open certain files that lets say VLC can't?
Actually most use the same backend libs such as gstreamer and xine, so they can all pretty much play the same stuff.
